GUESTHOUSE REVIEW BY CONNIE H
| April 2012
I stayed in the Guest House for the month of January this year. My two little dogs LOVED the home, the courtyard, and Lin’s ”dog park” down the block.
I walked in and immediately felt like I was HOME. While the 4-season porch has two twin beds, and my grandson used one of them for a week, the layout of the home was perfect for me. I had everything I could possibly want: kitchen full of appliances, dishes, soap; a huge closet and chest for my clothes; an industrial-sized washer and dryer; a super comfortable hard-to-get-out-of bed; skylights to tell me the weather report while I was still in bed; a great shower and lovely bathroom; shelves to use for my books, etc.; internet; NetFlix on the TV; a golf cart for tooling around; the dock where we could sit with a gate to keep the dogs with me; and so many stars at night that I thought I was truly in Heaven.
NOTE: I spent January here, February on St Simons Island, and March on Amelia. THIS was by far my favorite place. An instant unwinder. The PERFECT place to escape and relax. If you’re craving traffic, shopping, and wild parties, go to Cancun. This Guest House is for people who are escaping the craziness and want peace and quiet. Sit and watch pelicans, read without interruption, watch all of the movies you missed, and don’t forget to walk after dark and look up at the sky.
I WILL BE COMING BACK. Lin was not only the perfect hostess, she is now my friend. She’ll help 24/7. I mentioned that I’d forgotten my tripod and awoke to find one sitting outside the door. What a hoot! I had one of the best months of my life here. You will, too! I was homesick when I left and have been ever since.
Thanks, Lin and Jimmy, for the BEST possible vacation! |

Tabby Cottage Review by Glatfelter Family 4-20-2011
I want to start off by saying if you are thinking about a vacation on the Georgia Coast this is where you want to go.
You will never meet a more sweet or caring couple as Dave and Jane. Not to forget John, amazing people.
The cabin was absolutely beautiful and more than fully stocked. Everything you will need is there. This in defiantly not
your everyday rental cabin. Very clean and homey.
We are a fisherman family and this is the perfect spot for that. We fished everyday and caught fish every day. Our whole
vacation was eat, fish, sleep. Life doesn’t get any better than that.
If you don’t like fishing, then go check out Black Beard Island. You will not regret it. My girls and I found our first
horse shoe crab shell there. And lets not forget Dockside Seafood I had my first soft shell crab and have never tasted anything so good.
Dave and Jane we will be back next year and counting down the days till then. If my husband had anything to do with it we
would of never left.
Thank you again for all you did and all you do. God Bless,
The Glatfelter Family Heath, Yvonda, Jhenna, and

Bill and Jane, Stockholm, WI (Rental period 1/15/11 to 3/6/11)
We have spent seven peaceful weeks in the Captain’s Cottage and can’t imagine a more comfortable house–the comfort created by both the thoughtful layout and the tasteful nautical décor (with a “splash of Irish” reflecting the Scots Irish history of the area). The openness of the downstairs living/dining/kitchen areas makes it easy for people to be doing different things–whether reading, watching TV, cooking, or eating—but still be together in the open space. The upstairs desk/work area with the bench seat (that can also be used as two twin-sized beds, though we did not use it that way) also felt very open and comfortable because of its loft-like feeling with a railing overlooking the high ceiling living room. The large master bedroom, bath, and large walk-in closet upstairs were more than adequate, and (again) felt very “open” and comfortable. The two smaller bedrooms and bathroom downstairs also worked well for the guests who stayed with us. Additional features that we took advantage of and enjoyed outside of the house were the three acre “dog pasture” (our dog loved it!), the Rogers’ Julienton River dock, and the golf cart that were made available to us by Lin Rogers—who by the way responded immediately to any questions or requests we had.
We also had the unexpected pleasure of meeting two of the Atlanta owners of the cottage and of learning more about the house and the area from them. Some highlights of the trip were of course the food, at places like Hunter’s Café (about a half block away); Speed’s Kitchen (a couple of blocks away); the Old School Diner (easy driving distance); the Darien River House, Skipper’s, and the Purple Pickle in Darien (about 25 minutes drive); and the Blackwater Grill on St. Simons Island (about an hour away). We spent the better part of a day on Sapelo Island on a very informative tour conducted by JR Grovner, a direct descendant of slaves brought to Sapelo in the early 1800s to work the plantations. We also participated in a “re-enactment” dinner event at Fort King George in Darien. And we enjoyed doing a lot of walking both close to home and driving up to the Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge nearby.
We cannot imagine a more comfortable place to go for a winter get-away and would highly recommend this rental home to anyone who is interested in a Georgia barrier islands retreat!

We had such a nice time at the condo. We had a great time catching up with family we hadn’t seen in a while and enjoyed watching the morning golfers from the porch and splashing around in the pool. Hopefully we’ll be coming back to this lovely area very soon and will definitely request the villa which was roomy but cozy and tastefully decorated-we were quite impressed!

What a great place! Close to everything and very lovely! We will most certainly be back again. The porch was our favorite little spot. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful DeLaVilla with us!

We used the house for sleeping /showering while attending a family gathering at my nephew’s home in Spaulding Point. Tabby Cottage is beautifully arranged and very comfortable! Thanks for the special touches, fruit, wine, etc.

We are in Shellman Bluff for the wedding of our son, Robert Gordon Parks and Nickie Coggins. It was a wonderful wedding. God Smiled on Us. Everything was Perfect!!! Had a wonderful time.

I have read the many accolades that others have written to you. After meeting you and Dave, I can understand why others have written as they did. We cannot add to the things others have written other than to echo their thoughts. Thanks for all that you have done.

Jane & Dave, Many thanks again for your wonderful hospitality and sharing your beautiful part of the world with us. Hopefully the peace and tranquility will set us up to survive another year in the “rat race” before we have the opportunity to visit again. We think our eldest son secretly regretted not coming with us this time too.
The Walls, Halesowen, England, April 17, 2009
Jane & Dave, Once again it has been an unforgettable stay. Words cannot express how wonderful, caring, loving, and kind you were to us. Thank you for everything. Food was so delicious and the crab was “special”, trapping, and eating them. Like I told you, I feel as if I’ve come home again.
My love, Linda McDaniel, April 10, 2009
Dear Jane & Dave,
What a nice welcome for us. Thank you Jane. Our three children and six of our grandchildren are all here for our oldest grandson’s wedding at the Midway Church. It is a rare treat to have our family all be together. Our oldest grandson’s wedding is special. Thank you for your hospitality!!
The Johnsons, Rome, GA April 5, 2009
Dear Jane and Dave,
Seldom does one meet a couple as friendly, caring and thoughtful as you two. Our six weeks stay in Tabby Cottage has been a wonderful Get-A-Way from the snows and below Zero weather in upstate New York. We came knowing that Roscoe, our ten year old Lab would need our assistance climbing the steps up to the house. So it was a most happy surprise discovering Dave had gone to all the work and expense to construct the ramp…in addition to the fenced in doggy park for Roscoe and Lucy. We shall be forever grateful for the way you invited us into your world, meeting your friends and neighbors, enjoying the extraordinary “Coastal Cookout” and participating in the St. Patrick’s Day activities. Jane your visits with us and loaning the many books about the Low Country helped us understand the interesting history and nature of the Low Country.
Thanks for the memories. Barbara & Earl Schultz, Chatam Center, New York, Feb/March 2009
Feb. 2009 Jane and Dave,
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! You both have been so generous of Spirit towards us and our dogs. I want to say how special the “Georgia on My Mind” show in Glenville was. It was a highlight in our stay. I guess the best part is that we loved it so much that we decided to buy a second home here! So now, we can get to know each other as time goes on. Thanks for all the advice on where to get “stuff” for the new house.
With Love and Light, Shelia & Dave Presley
Sea Breeze Home, April 2009
Hi Lin,
I’m sorry it’s taken me a month to send this thank you but, as you know, vacation-time-life and real-time-life run on different clocks!
We had such wonderful time at your Yellow Bluff rental in April, I wanted to let you know how much we all enjoyed ourselves; me, my husband Cliff, and Riley-dog. It was the perfect blend of relaxation, great seafood, hospitable locals, laid-back activities (we visited the two area Revolutionary forts, drove around Savannah and Tybee and visited Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge), and beautiful scenery. I could honestly sit on that deck, look out past the oaks and the Spanish moss, over the marshes, forever!
Thank you for the experience…we will definitely be back!

Sea Breeze Home, 7-7-2008
Marcia and I want to thank you for directing us to the Sea Breeze home for our vacation. We had a wonderful time doing the “touristy” type of things in the area and also in the beautiful old part of Savannah. This was the first adventure we’ve taken in that part of the country and really enjoyed it with Marcia’s brother and sister in-law. We enjoyed the house, the porch deck and pier. The weather was very cooperative as were the mosquito’s. Coming from an area where at this time of the year the humidity is high and the bugs are nasty, we couldn’t have asked for better weather conditions. One of the highlights of our visit was just sitting on the house deck and enjoying each other’s company, whether it be over a meal or just Mark and I smoking a cigar; the down time was just what we wanted. Please express our appreciation to Mr. Daniels and the great time we had out on the boat. The scenery was beautiful, and we even got a kick out of getting stuck during low tide. Again, thank you for making our vacation an enjoyable and relaxing time.
Sincerely, Richardson, Pekin, IL 61554
COAST CABIN 6-29-2008
Hello Lin – Our family thoroughly enjoyed the Coast Cabin for our stay — we are talking about future “meet-togethers” there – very possibly for Thanksgiving. The Coast Cabin was simple, clean, comfortable and complete! We loved it. And the use of the dock was terrific — missed the golf cart!!! Didn’t realize we could have used that, but we will certainly keep that in mind for our next visit. We fell in love with and want to learn more about the Shellman Bluff area, and that means we will definitely be back! Ben (our Springer Spaniel) felt very comfortable there, and quickly became the “porch master” letting anyone who passed by know that he was in the house!
Thank you for a seamless, effortless mini-vacation. B. Clark
Moonpie Cottage
VERY POSITIVE – I rank the Moonpie Cottage a 10. For those of you who worry about booking a rental house based on pictures on the internet, have absolutely no worries at all. The Moonpie Cottage will exceed your expectations.
Here are just a few of the reasons why I highly recommend this property:
1) Clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated with southern charm
2) Centrally located very close to Shellman Bluff Village so you easily ride over to the local restaurants and pubs
3) Fully equipped kitchen and great floor plan that is the perfect for 2 couples
4) Wrap-around screened porches for your morning coffee or your afternoon nap
5) Dock access for your boat, not to mention a beautiful sunset from Serenity Place dock
6) A beautiful boat ride away to Blackbeard Island, one of the last unspoiled beaches on the East Coast
7) A very reasonable price; this is a good value
8) The opportunity to meet Lin Rogers, who is truly “the Host on the Coast” and the other friendly folks of Shellman Bluff I can’t wait to return.

During the past twenty or so years, my job has taken me to every corner of America and to many foreign countries. Being on the road for so long has taught me what to look for when I travel. Lin Rogers’ retreat at Serenity Place is at the very top of my list of great places to stay.
Pleasure Bluff is located on a quiet and remote part of the Georgia coast; it is America as seen by Norman Rockwell, a quiet and idyllic little fishing village that has remained largely unchanged over the years. The view is across a great expanse of salt marsh and across Sapelo Sound to the Atlantic. The only noise is from seabirds feeding near the dock. The only hustle and bustle is from Lin Rogers doing everything possible to make sure her guests enjoy their visit. Her place has more than the expected conveniences; it has a warm and quiet elegance that is the essence of true hospitality.
Travel is about people as much as it is about places. And Lin Rogers and the people of Pleasure Bluff and nearby Shellman Bluff are among the best people I’ve ever met. No matter where I travel today, this part of the Georgia coast remains always in my mind. And I count the days until I can return.

To all who read these comments, believe me all the wonderful and positive things described are absolutely true. The Guest House is very comfortable, extremely clean, and peace and quiet abound. Lin and Jimmy are fantastic people. They made us feel like part of the family. My husband and I and our dog had a wonderful week, even though the temperatures were well over the mid-90′s! We will be going back and look forward to the Guest House and the abundance of fresh seafood!! Thanks Lin for everything!

Hi Lyndsay,
It was a pleasure meeting you during our visit to coastal Georgia. What a lovely area! We’re very proprietary about the beautiful Berkshires, where we live, but do hope to see more of what Georgia has to offer in coming years.
Your and Lin’s handling of our rental was completely seamless, the house where we spent one delightful week was spacious and comfortable. The wildlife in the front lagoon was an especially nice touch.
Thank you again for facilitating a terrific and restful vacation.

Lyndsay, We had a wonderful time at the Hammocks at Sapelo. The condo was just beautiful and everything was perfect. It was an exact meeting point for us to meet my brother and sister in law. They live in Rock Hill, SC and we live in Melbourne, FL so it was a 4 1/2 hour drive for each of us. The brothers love golf so it was perfect for them. And us women, well we love shopping and we hit the outlet mall and got some wonderful deals. The only problem was it all went by way too fast. It was Monday morning before we knew it and we all hated to leave. We did talk about doing it again but next time we plan to stay longer. Thank you so much for everything!!!!

Lyndsay . . . we really enjoyed our stay at the Captain’s Cottage this past weekend. We were there for a family wedding, and really didn’t have as much time to just relax as we would have hoped, but that had nothing to do with this lovely cottage. We had some friends join us on Sunday after the wedding and we discussed that, even though I have 2 sisters who live in the area, that it might be nice to get another couple to join in and rent one of your properties for a week . . . much too long of a time to impose on my sisters’ hospitality. I have been using Shellman Bluff as a peaceful get-away ever since one of my sister’s and her husband sold their home in Savannah and moved to their weekend place permanently. We found the Captain’s Cottage very welcoming . . . comfortably furnished, well-equipped, clean and ready for us to move in on the appointed date. Loved that the light’s were on, the music was playing, the AC was set perfectly and the key was waiting for us under the mat. How nice not to have to go to a real estate or management office to pick up the key, then walk into a hot, stuffy rental unit after a long trip to get there. What a lovely way to do business . . . only in Shellman Bluff, right?

We have really enjoyed our stay. This is such a lovely cottage. Our time here has been very peaceful! We particularly enjoyed using the kayaks and “cruising” around in the golf cart! This spot has provided some much needed rest. Only God could create such natural beauty…marshes, tide pools, birds, dolphins (my favorite), squirrels, otters (we think), and even a raccoon! What a great place to visit…

Moon pie is such a wonderfully quiet retreat. We had such a nice time – Lin thanks for being so kind when we locked ourselves out!! Must do item – take the water tour with Henderson Hope!! We saw dolphins & alligators – unbelievable Henderson is a great guide.
Great meal at Sapelo Station – try the crawfish eggrolls!
Our two Golden retrievers loved swimming at Jekyll Island – the beach is worth the drive. Also, the carriage tour is very interesting.

Hi Lin, Life quickly gets too busy when you return back home from a wonderful vacation. I just wanted to send you a note that you can share on your website and with the owner of My husband and I enjoyed what was probably one of the best vacations that we have had in the 22 years that we have been married. Although, our three daughters (two college students and one high school student) were not able to join us, as a couple, we experienced for 2 days a quite and beautiful time during our stay at Sapelo Suite. The home was incredible regarding the location on the small lake and the interior design definitely exceeding our expectations. I felt as though this house could be a place that we call home away from our home in Atlanta. We hope to return to the Georgia Coast area in the spring and will look to stay at Sapelo Suite to ensure that we can recreate the wonderful experience we had in February. Thank you for being right on target with your recommendation for our vacation on the Georgia Coast. We will be in contact with you again very soon. Take care. Cathy and Don Shipley 2-19-2009
Hi Lin, I’m in a Georgia state of mind and have been reflecting on the several days I spent at Sapelo Hogan over the Christmas holidays.
This quality home leaves nothing to be desired with all the amenities one could want.
I had fantastic weather during my stay and was able to enjoy several rounds of golf at the challenging Sapelo Hammock Golf Club. I joined the men’s golf group and was accepted as if I had been a member for years! Those guys can sure play and the food in the club house is super.
I’m country boy, and was pleased with the rural but convenient location. Just a short drive to Savannah, Sea Island or Jekyll Island.
My favorite after golf entertainment was having a drink while watching the ducks frolic on Duckhaven Lagoon. The screened porch and fireplace certainly made for a cozy atmosphere. Next it was a quick bike ride to the pavilion to take in the most fantastic sunset over the White Chimney River and Low Country marshes that you will ever see. I took many pictures but you can’t compete with the beauty of Mother Nature.
Lin it was a pleasure to meet you and I thank you for recommending. For selfish reasons I HAVE NOT SPREAD THE WORD like I told you I would. Sorry!! In the words of General Douglas MacArthur “I shall return.”
